White fluffy cloud, green grassy plains,
blue rolling hills, rugged mountains range
call of the dawn, birds announce the day
New Guinea calls – time for us to play!
Weather reports, satellite beams, Av gas at the ready
load the gear, gun the engines, hold the throttle steady
adrenaline rush at lift off, climbing ever high
the perfect way to live is aiming for the sky.
NDB, VOR, ADF, GPS
aeronautical lingo exchanged among the best
Cheryl, Barry, David, Geoff and trusty Bill & Bob
we’re all in such safe hands with the best mob for the job.
Tamaris & Stephen, Betty & John
Greg and Val and Dianne and Batesy’s brother John
2004 safari has risen to the test
and those who have participated declare its been the best.
Bensbach, Malolo, Karawari, Sepik
barges, canoes – er ?anybody seasick?
Madang, Mt Hagen and Ambua huts
to visit these places is a New Guinea must.
Cruising the reeds where the fish lie asleep
roused from their slumber in one flying leap
sunburn and windburn, sunshine and rain
New Guinea is calling us “come back again”.
So thankyou Bill and thankyou Bob
for all your preparations
this trip has been superlative
and exceeded expectations.
And now the trip is over
we’ve plod that last mud track
New Guinea’s in our blood forever
and will always call us back!
