We flyers are
a motley crew
Who’ve gathered for this trip
To come from near and far by air
All scorning car or ship.
For Phil and me and others too
We do not own our planes
But all together make a team
In cloud and hills and rains.
Bad luck struck Keith and Jan too soon
But they weren’t left behind
And Hagen’s airstrip bothered Bill
But his crew didn’t seem to mind.
The Maule works gallantly to rise
Up over mountains high
And Bob’s plane seems to magically
Expand as well as fly.
Bob also has a sat.phone link
To gods of all the weather
He seems to make the magic work
Without a bead or feather.
We’ve
all got funny little ways
And habits quite endearing
But it’s hard to make us all keep quiet
As some have lost their hearing.
Now
Brian’s hat is very flash
While Bill’s is quite renowned
Poor Barry’s hat fell overboard
And sadly quickly drowned.
Kathy
likes to wear bare feet
While others wear their boots
But neither’s good for slippery banks
Or tripping over roots.
There’s always though a helping hand
For ladies and the old
And no one yet has come a cropper
Except Bos Pela bold. |
And when we party all
together
To Bamboo Big Band’s sound
We cast all cares aside and dance
The Conga round and round.
We sing and clap and Ursula
And Dianne do the twist
And Raymond has us all in fits
This we wouldn’t have missed!
Now Alan flew his sister here
And both have big big smiles
They’ve never heard the song called ‘Never Smile at Crocodiles’.
Our Kevin came at notice short
When Brian’s Irene got crook
Big Barry hunts down reggae tapes
If his nose isn’t in a book.
And jokes abound within our group
Paul Keating cops his share
As Klaus brings out his favourites
He does it with such flair.
Phil told his old octopus joke
I hadn’t heard for years
The evenings are a happy time
Amid some merry beers.
We’re privileged to be part of this
A very special mob
Of people who fly through the skies
Like our leaders Bill and Bob.
And specially like Bron and Al
In slow and steady Maule
With VFR o’er mountains grim
An example to us all.
So now our trip is almost through
Adventures every day
And so much kindness at our stops
And friendship all the way.
To Bill and Bob we Thank You True
And those in PNG
Who made us all Most Welcome there
Our Friends Across The Sea. |
