UNFINISHED BUSINESS - RETURN TO PNG

By Bronwyn Dove

Don't go to New Guinea, our friends all cried,

I know someone who was raped or died,

If the rascals don't get you the mountains will,

By the time we left Sydney, we'd had our fill.

But when we got there what did we find?

The people were mostly friendly and kind,

They shouted and waved as we drove by,

And the children’s song brought a tear to our eye.

The flying was done without too much fuss,

With Boss Pella and Bob to look after us,

They always helped us find the best route,

And the weather was always "FINE AND BEAUT'.

…Return in 2001

We didn't make Tari on our first trip,

The Huli's were fighting, not fixing the strip,

And so disappointed we headed for home,

Hoping that someday we would return.

Now Alan and I are back here again,

Having a great time, flying the plane,

On Sepik Spirit, culture galore!

Buying more stuff than we did before,

Then on to Tari, what a bus ride!

We saw dancing in wigs and even a bride!

Those colourful Huli's showed us their huts,

If I lived in that smoke, I think I'd go nuts.

Thank you to Bob and Bill and you all,

For waiting for us in our slow "Maule".

Bob, again you helped us find the best route,

And the weather was better than "FINE AND BEAUT'.
